Profile Information

Performance Discipline
choreographer artist
Born in Liège, Belgium, Selim has learned ballet and contemporary dance since high school. He was quickly pushed on stage on international competitions and many shows.

He then began to meet companies and artists from all horizons, collaborating with dance schools in his own personal way.

Confirmed as a major dancer on the experimental scene, he founded his own company Labo DSN in 2009, offering his vision of both sensitive and brutal creation.

In search of a movement without illusion, he likes to incorporate mixed techniques and uncommon characters into his pieces. Depictions offering singularly poetic images.

Grown up in a family of artists, he is attached to materials and clean scenography. He likes to create intimacy between performers and audience by calling forward the dancer’s individuality, thus instigating reflective mindfulness in the spectators’ psyche.

"... A messenger wants to create questions, proposals and sometimes intermediate findings. Consequently, it is necessary to descend to the very heart of the human being ..."

Selim Aydogdu is a Member of the International Dance Council (CID), a non-profit organization founded by the Unesco.

He was a teacher at the International Brussels Ballet School and the Martine Wolff School.

His performances were shown in many countries between Belgium and Turkey, where he regularly gives performances and workshops.

Labo DSN

Company founded in Liège in April 2009 by Selim Aydogdu, choreographer and dancer, with the help of Filiz Aydogdu, architect and designer. Labo DSN is composed of dancers and artists from diverse professional backgrounds.

The Identity of Labo DSN is characterized by the will to inspire the public to create their own cultural and semantic links through choreographic situations. Focused on the Real, DSN seeks balance between reflection and art.

Like the symbolic vocabulary used, the choice of dancers is often made by exception to the rule.
The laboratory hosts many artists with different roots. Its leitmotiv is to integrate, tune up and sublimate games of individuals in choreographic creation.

"We want to gather and stage beings from various arts and cultures, all in a contemporary design.

Our performance is a set of connections, providing synergy and thriving in a trip to these places where improbable imaginary sensations are distressing, terribly authentic."

R/2 Roots&Road

It was an improvisation, filmed at the Liège Memorial, that revealed to the choreographer the evidence of the link between permanent bodily memory and collective memory.

Through movement, he explores the whole set of - conscious or not - recollections of experiences lived and mythicised by the identity-building collectivity, of which memories of past…
