Koomah performs an original spoken word piece for the Blender show in Philadelphia for the closing of the Philadelphia Trans-Health conference.
This performance happened immediately after Koomah performed a performance art piece using the rare original version of "Reflection" from Disney's 'Mulan' as sung by Lea Solanga.
This performance of Art like Gender was dedicated to Tristan, who sent Koomah a recording of himself speaking Koomah's original poem along with the song 'Hoppipola' in the background. Tristan inspired Koomah to turn the poem into a live performance piece.
"ART LIKE GENDER
By Koomah
gender is like art.
it's more than black and white.
full of grays and vivid hues.
so when is someone male?
or female?
when is something art?
is something art just because you hang it on a wall?
something is art when you say it is,
when you believe it is.
and much like art...
gender is gender,
is male,
is female,
when you say you are
and when you believe you are.
and you are.
but like art...
there will always be those people
who don't agree with you
who say
that's not "real" art!
you're not a "real" man!
you're not a "real" woman!
I am a masterpiece
and you are too.
I am a man
because I say so,
and I am.
and maybe tomorrow I'll be a woman
if I say so,
and I will be.
Or maybe I'll be more avant garde
more than just male
or just female.
because right now...
I am both.
and maybe later, I'll be neither.
whatever I choose,
whatever I decide or declare
whether for that moment
or for my whole lifetime,
I will always be art."
The 1st art piece I hold says "ART?" and can be seen here: http://koomah.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d1ll2bs
The 2nd art piece titled "Human" and can be seen here: http://koomah.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d1ll6vo.
