What is hidden, forgotten, ready to be revealed or anticipated?
In between the Japanese futuristic manga and a reference to Alejandro Jodorowsky’s alchemist - Petrus answers to this question in a magical ritual driven by a Robot within an artificial intelligence network that connects ghosts, spirits or even real characters from the past to the future. Petrus shows how our knowledge and emotions are linked into a real and an imaginary world, as well challenging our rational mind limitations. Beside our civilization crumbling, the technology advances are no longer abstract, they bring new social relationship, desires or frustrations.
For the last part of his multimedia “Trilogy Of The End”, Petrus performs in RENT A ROBO with a Nao robot companion. To share this message, Petrus puts his robot for rent as a "speech corner" in a miniature and non-theatrical space. Looking for a new proximity with the viewer, he offers to play everywhere, even at people’s home. Under Petrus’s guidance, a ritual of transformation is proposed with this shamanistic robot hosting voices and dances from beyond or from our inner lives.
About the robot - Developed by the French Aldebaran Robotics, Nao (pronounced "now") is an autonomous, programmable robot part of an educational program, with a powerful multimedia system (microphones, speakers, CMOS cameras) for text-to-speech synthesis, sound localization, facial and shape recognition. Nao became popular by dancing a Michael Jackson’s choreography at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010. Petrus and Aldebaran have developed the robot’s hardware for acting in a long duration performance.
Petrus - Wayn Traub (1972) - Petrus is the new identity of the Belgian artist Wayn Traub. In 2005-2009, Toneelhuis, the theatre house in Antwerp allowed him to produce his cycle WAYN WASH, that was shown at Kaaitheater (Brussels), Théâtre de la Ville (Paris) and toured over Europe. Since 2009, he works with his company Service To Others on projects merging disciplines (dance, performance, film and live music). His cycle TRILOGY OF THE END is settled upon the theme of the End of the World’s myth: ROBO A GOGO (2011), RENT A ROBO and PETRUS THE ROMAN (both created in 2012).
