3 days intervention and interaction with public under the collaboration of TEAK and Dartington (UK) . The event known as CO-OPERATION . The work started daily by my 40 minutes walk from Haapaniemenkatu to Esplanade and then rebuilding the structure of the space , re-activating the act-ivated space from 8th to 10th of september 2010. It has been a great experience to study human behavior through their reactions , involvement , indirect communication , curiosity .My costume also was a presentation of my solidarity to the reactions against the uranium power plant
All the images were taken by Davide Pavone and although this one seemed a little lopsided gives an interesting image of how the world will be in this horizonic gravitation. Anyway but there were lot of paparazzi feeling !
the whole device has an acoustic body and through the megaphone or voice one can examine the frequency of the sound traveling through the device
my subtle actions and slow movement and even a casual walk arrested the people to come near and inspect examine, feel, touch, enjoy, perform, participate, re-act-ivate the whole into a process of solution !!!!!
Action formulates reaction > its known to all anyway. There was a strong urge for this Russian Gentleman to get involved to perform with me .
its really interesting that from this narrow diameter of the device the sound takes a a bit of time to travel to another end !
I was at some point speaking in bi-lingual form Finnish as a translation from English casual sentences. I was only using this to invite and attract people's attention into doing something rather then watching. However i was also making throat sounds in the lowest frequency and in this way i attempted to bring people to perform
whats actually happening? yes this is the question running in people's mind ! is this a flute? a drum? a telescope? a missile? a horn? What is the material? What does it mean? can we touch it? how does it sound? What's the purpose? can we play it?
Curiosity, resentment, eagerness, Indirect communication, inquiry and not involvement, inquiry with involvement, attitude of paparazzi, inspecting and examining, random dialogue, few interaction with the object, increased interaction- indirect and direct, more open reaction of other nationalities rather then Finnish nationals, gradual mitigation of processed inhibition, multi-cultural participation -[these are the reactions i gathered while researching for three days ]
while i drummed constantly on several intervals during this three days i formed the urge for the people to try drumming as well . It was interesting to find out varied tonalities in the device and even its interesting when one places the ear on the holes to listen how the sound is generating within the device
"Hey i came yesterday as well ! I am from Russia and would like to examine and perform with you can i drum?" this words are from this gentleman rest is obvious --his eagerness to perform! (The Russian Gentleman's 2nd visit)
There he goes and several others too! fortunately for him he is the one seen in my image documentation whereas there were others too. The strategy is very different from the street musicians. The street musicians do it firstly for money , secondly to practice , thirdly to make others happy and that if anyone does. whereas here the whole frame has been designed for people's performance as the only one soul reason.
the interest rising and its interesting to observe the joy in his face and it occurred to several others too. I work not to problematize any kind of situation but to provide solutions to situation. My project entirely is not to discover problems but to recreate solutions since the problems are never ending so its time for us to look for solutions.
I give him and others the space . I open the space into the 'we-ness' and work to help the viewers to come out of myspace.com . He or she explores . They find their own level of intimacy or relation with the device and the environment created by their presence.
This is important--at first it was the fear of leaving trace in the record book but not in the device. I invited people with a proposition that after they examine the device they leave their thumb mark on my work and the record book. However i managed to collect and connect 33 thumb marks in 3 days . The reason i say this because some people when they came to perform they were alien to each other. But soon in this space they were exchanging contacts, getting introduced and more than that they were all performing . In the first i collected 8 thumb marks, on the second day 15 and on the third day 10 thumb marks. Here this Russian gentleman was the first person in the second day to perform this last tactile ritual .
