Bio
Initially studying and working in neuroscience, Yelena Gluzman began making theater works in 1997 as a continuation of her interest in the mechanisms underlying human behavior. Since 1999, under the initiative called Science Project, she has created numerous performances and events, most recently, Worman (2009), Character Pieces (2008), and Steal Life (2008), all in Tokyo. Previous works (in NYC and elsewhere) have been performed at The Performing Garage, Theater for a New City, and the Old American Can Factory. among others.

She is the editor of the Paperless Book Department at the Ugly Duckling Presse, which will launch the paperless book series "Phone Books" in 2010, and have a brief edition of her own paperless book "Dear Diary" on display at PS1 in New York. Also with Ugly Duckling Presse, Gluzman co-edits the Emergency series of performance-related texts.

Born in the Soviet Union, 4-year old Gluzman emigrated with her family as political refugees, grew up in New York, graduated from Columbia University's School of the Arts, and has lived in Tokyo for the past 5 years. She is currently interested in the works of Yvonne Rainer, the writing of Hijikata Tatsumi, and the similarities between pornography and reading.
