- Vânia Gala
Vânia Gala is Angolan-portuguese.
She studied at E.D.D.C. (European Dance Development Center) - Arnhem, Netherlands and at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Dance and Music, MA choreography.
Her collaboration as a dancer includes: Les Ballets C. of La B. Christine De Smedt, Constanza Macras, Nationale Scene - Bergen, Morten Travik, Kompani B.Valiente, among others.
Her choreographical work - Automatic Id (AID) has been performed since its premiére in Angola, Portugal, Norway, Germany, Ireland, Great Britain and Russian Federation.
In 2005 Automatic Id (AID) was awarded with “Best Female Performance” at the Dublin Fringe Festival was part of Aerowaves Festival at the Place- Robin Howard Theater, London and of the 1st Trienal of Luanda (Angola). In 2007 she performed at the 1st African Pavillion at the Venice Biennale. MiamiLuanda premiéred at Teatro Académico Gil Vicente, Portugal in 2008 and was presented at the Portuguese Platform for Performative Arts curated by Rui Horta. In 2009 she created 8º10’30” performed at Teatro Académico Gil Vicente and Centro Cultural de Belém. More recent collaborations include Sonia Boyce, curated by Paul Goodwin (Tate) presented at Centro Cultural de Belém, Portugal and Georgia Scherman Projects, Toronto.
She has taught at Tanz Fabrik (Berlin), k77 studios (Berlin), Almada Dance Company, Kampgnagel (Hamburg), Bergen Danse Senter, Nairobi Goethe Institute and is the director of teaching programme "Semana(d)ança" and “Corpus Lab” at Gil Vicente Theater in Portugal.
