Hunger – International Performance Festival
Performances – Workshops – Lab

From May 7 to 21, 2011, the International Performance Art Festival will take place in Berlin for the second time. The Festival is a unique art festival, with workshops, labs and performances, is among the most important platforms for performance art.

Over 100 Berlin and international artists will present themselves in a performance marathon. During the opening on May 14 and 15, it will be possible to see what constitutes performance art: spontaneous creativity, confrontation, experiments, in short: artists in real-time.

What takes place can then serve as inspiration for all interested individuals. Performance labs with the artists will give participants the opportunity to pursue their own creative impulses and to present the results to the public in the finale on May 20 and 21.

Why hunger?
Hunger is stimulus, greed, desire. Hunger makes people inventive. How is the hunger for movement, for expression transposed in the creative process? Is it necessary to cultivate hunger in a sated society? How will it influence us?

Venue 1: Alte Markthalle
Perhaps only still able to be used for artistic experiments for a short period of time, this urban architecture, an open, roofed over space, seems to be the ideal stage for performative action.

Venue 2: Blo Ateliers
Surrounded by train tracks, reclaimed by nature, the 12,000 sq. m. large grounds of the former Berlin Lichtenberg Ost railroad depot is today one of the most interesting and largest artist communities in East Berlin.

Event addresses
Blo Ateliers, Kaskelstrasse 55, Berlin-Lichtenberg
Alte Markthalle, Eisenbahnstrasse 42/43, Pücklerstraße 34 , Berlin Kreuzberg

“Hunger” is a collaboration between Open Space Berlin and B-Lock. Two groups that can look back on many years of performance festival experience, unite their energies in order to explore new paths and gather new experiences.

Open Space Berlin is an internationally networked platform for artists from the fields of performance art, theater, and the visual arts. Its focus is on interaction in the public space in connection with artistic actions. Outside of the mainstream, Open Space organizes and presents festivals, performances, and exhibitions.

The B-lock Festival is a performance, theater, dance and movement festival. Since 2007, it has been organized once a year by the BLO Ateliers, and hosts artists from diverse backgrounds. Under the motto “Movement through movement”, B-Lock offers an occasion for physical expression through the performing as well as performative and visual arts.
