Karolin Kent is a Performance and Visual artist from Gothenburg, Sweden, now based internationally. Her background originates from a variety of dance techniques as well as acrobatics, martial art, theatre, singing, photography, film and community work.In 2011, Karolin graduated with a BA in Dance Theatre at Trinity Laban conservatoire of music and dance, London. During her studies she extended her experience with choreography, performance-, visual-art & academic research. As a dancer she has been working with choreographers/artists such as Rosemary Butcher, Lizzie Kew-Ross and Franko B.
She recently spent 5 months in India for learning about the culture, choreographic research, studying a Yoga teachers training and movement therapy at Kolkata Sanved. She participated in Kalakshetra Manipur Master class, March 2012. Thereafter, she conducted several creative workshops & initiated a collaboration with choreographer Surjit Nongmeikapam as they organized performances in Imphal, Manipur.
Choreographic methodologies are based around improvisation. Other art forms are feeding her inspiration and often takes part in the creative process. Challenging the spectator’s relationship to the performer and its role within the performance. Visual imagery and costume feeds the movement language and the meaning of the performance. Her work has been presented at National Maritime museum, Shunt and Bonnie bird theatre in London, Neu/ Now online Festival in Estonia, SACH- Sharma Arts & Craft House in India as well as International Video Dance Festival of Burgundy in France. Currently her work is published on Studentszine Contemporary Visual & Sonic art Publications. Upcoming tour with Vit Gestalt at international festivals in Sweden summer 2012.
She is currently exploring photography in creative work and photographic creative projects, documentary and performance photography. Her images has been published at Southbank center website, Laban, ’Neu/ Now’ festival and ’What now’ festival at Siobhan Davies studios, Times etc. She has been photographing for Efrosini Protopapa, Kerry Nicholls, Frauke Requardt, Colin Poole, Rosemary Butcher, Spinn dance company, Lizzie Kew-Ross & Gati dance, New Delhi, India.
Screen work has been developed through photography and choreography. She has been creating two pieces When my thoughts take form, 2010 and Vit Gestalt, 2011 . Moreover Karolin utilized the medium of film in her final dissertation Dualistic Echoes 2011. Recently collaborated with film artist Chaoba Thyiam (India) to make 'womb'.
