Public Performances and Closing Event: ITINERANT at 37 Road Pedestrian Plaza

QMAD, Queens Media Arts Development, a not for profit arts organization based in Jackson Heights -Queens, presents the closing event for its program ITINERANT on Saturday, May 12, 3 – 6 pm in Jackson Heights, Queens.ITINERANT, a citywide festival for Contemporary Performance Art was presented in the 5 boroughs in collaboration with galleries, artist-run spaces and public institutions.  ITINERANT 2012 focuses on live performative works that treat notions of intimacy, self-reflection, and introspection. Artists working in Contemporary Performance Art were selected to participate from an open call that attracted more than 175 local, national and international submissions. QMAD, Queens Media Arts Development, a small, artist-run non for profit arts organization based in Jackson Heights -Queens, launches ITINERANT, a citywide festival for Contemporary Performance Art.  The program will be presented in collaboration with galleries, artist-run spaces and public institutions in the five boroughs -Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island- that make up the City of New York. Bio
Hector Canonge is an interdisciplinary artist whose works incorporates the use of New-media technologies, physical environments, cinematic and performative narratives. In his work he explores and treats issues related to construction of idendity, gender roles, and the politics of migration. His performances mediate movement, endurance, and ritualistic processes as well as the interaction with the public.

Canonge's performance art work has been presented at Topaz Dance and Gallery Space, Queens Museum of Art, Bronx Museum, Panoply Performance Laboratory, Surreal Estate, IATI, Crossing Art Gallery, Y Gallery, Cadwell College, and Grace Exhibition Space among others. He organizes the seasonal performance art festival ITINERANT, and curates the monthly program A-Lab Forum at Crossing Art Gallery.
