Profile Information

Occupation: artist/teacher

Bio: As an artist I am committed to a conceptually based, interdisciplinary approach to art making. My artwork (performances, photographs, videos and installations) mix personal narrative, critical analysis and humor to explore the way various representations (popular, sub cultural, artistic) inform our understanding of ourselves within the world.
For many years a strong component of my work has also been the borrowing, referencing and re-working of various traditions as both a way to participate in these traditions as well as to question my relationship to them.  Born in St. Catharines, Ontario Canada, and now based in Taiwan, I trained initially at McMaster University (B.F.A) in Hamilton Ontario and consequently undertook an M.F.A. in performance art at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan 1996. During this earlier period I focused on solo, task based, site specific durational performances in such places as science centers, train stations, police stations, as well as art museums and galleries in Mexico, the U.S. and Canada.
