Fernando Carrión Caballero was born in Madrid (Spain) in 1976. He is currently based in Lyon (France).He worked as a soloist with Lyon Opera Ballet from 2003 until 2008. During this time he had the opportunity to further his knowledge, working with renowned choreographers such as Mats Ek, Jiri Kylian , William Forsythe , Sasha Waltz, Trisha Brown, Maguy Marin, etc. Lyon Opera Ballet gave him the opportunity to dance a range of different styles, such as conceptual dance, modern dance, dance theater . He danced one of the main rolls in “Carmen” by Mats Ek: the “The Gypsy” partnering Sylvie Guillem as Carmen.

In 2007 he acquired the official dance teacher's Diploma (Diplôme d'État) issued by the French Ministry of Education and Culture .


In September 2008 he decided to become a Freelance dancer and choreographer participating in various projects.

Since becoming a Freelancer, he has guested numerous times as a dancer and also teacher with the Lyon Opera Ballet. He was invited to dance the following pieces: “Bella Figura” & “One Of a Kind” by Jiri Kylian, November 2009 and February 2010; “Set & Reset” by Trisha Brown, May 2010; in Jerome Bel's performance “The show must go on”, June 2010 (He also performed for Jerome Bel with his own company); “Quintet” and “Workwithinwork” by William Forsythe in September 2010; “One Of a Kind” by Jiri Kylian in November 2012; “Limb's Theorem” by William Forsythe in November 2014.

From September 2010 till 2012, He joined Compañía Nacional de Danza of Spain as a Guest Principal Soloist in September 2010 and worked there until 2012.

During this period in Compañía Nacional de Danza he alternated dance with studies. The subjects that inspired him the most to choreograph were anthropology and sociology. His studies stimulated him to choreograph in a very specific way. In 2011 he choreographed for an animated dance film, “Sonata” which was broadcast by the channel Arte in June 2012. The short film won several awards in various countries. In 2012 he choreographed an installation in the Reina Sofía National Museum of Madrid, the title of the piece was “Re-Creo”. Simultaneously, he choreographed a piece for the Young Choreographers Evening in Compañía Nacional de Danza, “Con Todo Eso No Obstante”. He received appreciation from well known media such as RTVE and the newspaper El País. Critic: CON TODO ESO, NO OBSANTE: “Minimalism elevated to maximum expression”.

He was part of an Indian Festival in New Delhi where, Rukmini Chatterjeej, the Festival coordinator, asked him to collaborate in the choreography of the evening. He created an abstract solo “Lapsus” which would be performed in Galas and Festivals.

He was also part of a documentary presentation of the Compañía Nacional de Danza of Spain in Logroño (Spain) in June 2014 organised by Samuel Retortillo, where he danced the piece “Lapsus”. In April 2015 he choreographed a piece called “22h21m”, winning an award and recognition from Talents United, The piece was performed in Madrid in February 2016 over a two-week period, and he then received the opportunity to perform the piece in the Matadero Cultural House. “22h21m” was then performed at the “Zeiträume” Dance Festival in Germany to excellent reviews. It was also performed at the Margen Festival in Logroño (Spain) in August 2016, and at the Ventana Abierta Festival in Malaga in October 2016.

He left the Compañia Nacional in 2012 to go back to working as a freelancer, based in Lyon (France). Since then, he has been part of different projects as a dancer, teacher and choreographer. He was also invited to participate in Galas in Copenhagen and Munich.

In May 2013 the Norwegian National Ballet invited him to guest for their Kylian program.
In 2014 he toured with “Elephant in the Black Box Company” as a guest and danced “Remansos” by Nacho Duato.
In 2015 he was part of numerous projects and new creations with Rachid Ouramdane, Yuval Pick, Lyon Opera Ballet. He still tours with them today.
