You’ve seen it in the movies – now live the dream! Divine Nights… … invites you to be part of a unique experience which blends the sophisticated ambiance of a nightclub, with the excitement of live performance, and the cool surround-sound of your favourite film music. We don’t believe that theatre should be just about sitting watching. For us, theatre is an experience which involves all the senses, which is why we have created Divine Nights – an evening of fantasy and dreaming, interweaving…See More

Dirty Chamber Theatre

Driving back from the airport after performing Last Night I Dreamt My House Was Leaking... at PAD in Mainz, September 2009; Mary said "What do you think our next piece will be?", I hesitated, she continued: "I want it to be dirty" and I responded, "It will be a Chamber piece; it will be intimate and dirty". "Dirty!" we proclaimed to each other - somewhat in awe at what we had given birth to - and then we asked "What will that be like?".Almost two years later, we have our 'dirty Chamber piece'…See More

Famous & Divine will be performing Fugitive Songs on the opening night of the Festival which provides a platform for experimental and innovative art works. The Festival runs from 5th-8th May at PAD, (Performance Art Depot), and it's a really great event if you can get to it. The organisers - Peter and Nic - are amazingly enthusiastic and totally genuine in their love of performance art and this shines through everything they do.See More

'Fugitive Songs' at The Brighton Fringe Festival at Brighton Media Centre Studio, Friese-Greene House

May 7, 2011 at 7:30pm to May 8, 2011 at 7:30pm
Fugitive Songs is a new devised piece of performance theatre. It’s about fantasies; the ones that lead you astray and land you in a whole heap of trouble. It’s about late night bars, motel rooms, men with guns and women who chew gum – and it’s about the songs that take you there...…it begins with desire, the kind of desire that churns your stomach when you hear a song that ‘calls’ to you. The kind of desire that won’t let you go. That feeling when your body indefinably but voraciously yearns in…See More

Profile Information

Occupation
Experimental Devised Work
Bio
Famous & Divine create devised work which explores the hidden, secret, and silenced areas of women’s lives in contemporary society. Our work seeks out that which is unspoken, inexpressible, transgressive in the experience of being a woman. Our first piece, 'Last Night I Dreamt My House was Leaking…', entered the realm of women’s masochistic sexual fantasies. In our new piece, 'Fugitive Songs', two women succomb to their obsession with a particular piece of music and find themselves drawn into a landscape of desire and fantasy, fugitives from their everyday lives.

Introducing Famous & Divine

Posted on October 24, 2010 at 6:32am 0 Comments

So glad to have found this site - it's a great resource!

Famous & Divine is three years old now and comprises two performer/devisers: Mary Steadman and Amanda Price. Despite our 'newness' as a Company we have both been around for a number of years as performers/directors/lecturers/academics. We're passionate about this company because it represents a moment of risk for both of us; having been very sensible for years, and brought up families, held down jobs, paid our bills…
