Founded in 2008 by Artistic Director Charles Slender, FACT/SF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dance company that contributes directly to the artistic and intellectual wealth of the San Francisco Bay Area. FACT/SF's primary mission is to create aesthetically sophisticated and rigorously crafted performance events which encourage viewers to both feel intensely and think critically; our aim is to challenge all audience members to think in new ways and to broaden their perspectives. Steeped in the traditions of dance-theatre, postmodern performance, and contemporary ballet, FACT/SF believes that by providing artists and administrators with jobs and performing frequently for diverse audiences, we increase the visibility and viability of the performing arts, stretching its boundaries and ensuring its survival.
In just over three years, FACT/SF has performed locally 59 times and throughout the entire state during a 173-location tour to every Wal-Mart in California, sharing our work locally with over 2500 people, and statewide with more than 9000. The company has additionally performed at Performance Works NorthWest in Portland, Oregon, and locally at the San Francisco International Arts Festival, CounterPULSE, the San Francisco Fringe Festival, CSU East Bay, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts’ Grand Lobby, Electric Works Gallery, the 2nd and 3rd annual Move(men)t Festivals, the National Queer Arts Festival, and others. FACT/SF has held residencies at CounterPULSE, Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, the Garage, and participated in ODC’s Pilot 57 and 59. FACT/SF has received foundational support from the Trust for Mutual Understanding and the Zellerbach Family Foundation, a CA$H Grant from Theatre Bay Area/Dancers' Group, and is sponsored by Colour Drop, City CarShare, and Perkins Coie. Since its inception, FACT/SF has performed ten world premieres and two US premieres.
You're right! They weren't supposed to have video and we can't seem to get them to stop so we've deleted them. The last thing we want is to have those things blaring in the background.
