A Resource for Performing Artists, Scholars and Audiences.
“Freedom: Movement” is performance that’s the part of “Freedom” project that will have as many parts as it necessary to visually portray what I see as a definition of freedom, which is: freedom as a chain of possibilities. Degrees of possibilities are varying. They can depend of socio-geographical, culture-political and personal conditions; that can again branch out to the smaller and smaller parts and all of them are interchangeable all the time. For that reason, freedom as a chain of possibilities can easily make us think that we are free, even when we are not close to the state of potential to be possible. On other hand one of possibilities can promise nothing, but it gives you everything. Everything depends on randomness of changes inside of chain of possibilities that is recognized as freedom.
On the other hand freedom means something else to each person. For me, somebody who came from war torn country (former Yugoslavia) and constant political turmoil, freedom was and always will be the state of mind. Only difference is that I have been forced into that realization by not knowing any other way of experience the freedom. Relocating to the US gave me different perspective of what freedom can be: an endless choice of possibilities. And that new way of seeing freedom became a new imprisonment, because I didn’t know what choice is the right one and natural human instinct is to go and do all the things you didn’t experience before. It took me a while to learn how to handle all of that and to adjust. At the same time, it shocked (and in a way saddened) me to see people who grew with all of those possibilities, but didn’t, or don’t use them.
