RITUAL No. 2: SHE SPEAKS HER COUNT is a sensually meditative loop where concept becomes content. A study in language, value, and purpose. A systematic performance that presents a loving yet hellish relationship between two doomed creatures trapped in a cannibalistic existence.
Two figures (ODD and EVEN) take their place opposite one another in a classic kissing chair. This pair of female performers is draped, head to toe, in flowing red fabric with only their mouths and a single ear each exposed. EVEN faces forward to speak a number’s name, ODD turns to whisper the same digit’s count in her partner’s ear. For two hours they rotate tasks, from speaker to counter. During these two hours, “One” is spoken once, “two” is spoken twice, “three” is spoken three times, so on and so forth.
RITUAL No. 2: SHE SPEAKS HER COUNT is free and open to the public for one night only Friday July 13th doors are open from 8-10pm, inviting audience members to come and go as they please, as part of 2nd Friday presented by The Chicago Arts District at ROOMS Gallery located at 1835 South Halsted St Chicago, IL 60608.
