”TURNING IMAGES INTO FLESH”
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7
PERFORMANCES 9:00-11:00 PM
MESSIANIC RESEARCH SOCIETY FOR VISUAL ETHICS [FINLAND]
During performances, which exploit the traditions of scientific presentation and performance art, the group’s research projects take an artistic form as lectures transformed into theatrical spectacles. Documentations of these projects are, at times, realized through film art, or, at others, through experimental media art. In a video screening, a viewer can find oneself part of a performance as images turn into flesh. The MRCVE Artists Group was founded in 2002. The group’s modus operandi is to openly incorporate both scientific and artistic methods in its works.
MRCVE are: Janne Rahkila, Simo Saarikoski, Jussi Matilainen, Asko Nivala
ARIANNE FOKS [FRANCE]
Arianne Foks is interested in the presentation of the body as a medium, its relationship to architecture, domestic objects, and its power to engage us, the audience and the performer, in an emotional way through memory or by evocation. Her work questions desire, identity and physical or conceptual displacement. The shift of use of an object creates a shift in her identity. Her performances are a meeting between body and object, but naturally a meeting with the audience. Perhaps a love story? She collaborates with many sound and performance and dance artists from different parts of the world to enrich her experience and create exchanges.
GIM GWANG CHEOL [KOREA]
FEEL THE PAPER Power never changes but the form changes. Form can change by time and place but the characteristics never change. The artist relates power with language. Language is power, and language forms “Ron”, “Ron” forms civilization, civilization needs power from society. This work symbolizes language …(cut)… Human’s mouth has a weapon called language that produces absolute power. Feel the paper is expressing never changing power. The individual creatures that exist inside cannot be ever free in that society

ABOUT GRACE EXHIBITION SPACE IN BROOKLYN, NYC
Grace Exhibition Space, since 2006, is the only gallery in New York City devoted exclusively to Performance Art. We exhibit an international mix of performance artists, established, mid-career and still emerging.
Being a Brooklyn loft, our events are presented on the floor, not on a stage, dissolving the boundary between artist and viewer.
“Grace Exhibition Space is the sole gallery in this city that shows specifically, in its most intentionally narrow definition, Performance Art.” Patricia Milder, The Brooklyn Rail (May, 2011)
“Through such intimate encounters between performance groups and their guests, they could follow in the spirit of Yoko Ono’s Chamber Street loft or the Surrealist soirees of Paris” - Warren Fry, The Brooklyn Rail (August, 2007)
