Of soul of spirit, two sound artists perform separately and together in a special evening that introduces sound-poet-performer Martin Bakero to the New York City performance landscape.

MARTIN BAKERO [FRANCE]

Martin Bakero is a poet and electropneumàtic composer. He lives and works between Paris, Barcelona and Santiago, Chile and has a doctorate in Psychopathology from the University of Paris. Creator of "Poetry Pneumatika" he creates performances, movies, recordings, installations, graphic expositions and radio programs worldwide—seeking the rhythm within the verb, the puff, the sound, the view, the movement. He studied electroacoustic composition in the conservatory of Paris.

"Bakero's poetry comes not from narrative sensibilities but from the fusion of selected medias. Language is treated as object, violable and manipulable. Embracing ideas from across cultures, he simultaneously faces the ‘multi-continent’ and finds a place between its surface and body. EDWIN TORRES [NYC]

Edwin Torres is a lingualisualist, rooted in the languages of sight and sound. From the Nuyorican Poets Cafe to The Sydney Arts Festival, he has performed his interstitial multi-disciplinary work across the world, throwing the gauntlet at risk wherever possible. CDs include Holy Kid (Kill Rock Stars) and Novo (oozebap); books include, The PoPedology of an Ambient Language (Atelos Books), In The Function of External Circumstances (Nightboat Books), and most recently Yes Thing No Thing (Roof Books).

TAMARA YADAO [NYC]

Tamara Yadao is a sound/video artist and musician who employs arbitrary structures in improvisation to highlight failure aesthetics and meaning in conceptual methods of sound-making and juxtaposition. She co-conceived and co-curates the word/text performance series, TXT FST.
